To further celebrate the release of our CD "All Is Not
Lost", we had a party at the Rodeo-Ristra in Hoboken,
NJ on June 8, 2003. As with our party
in NYC, this one was chock full of yummy treats and good
friends. As an added bonus, we also had several performances
of Ya-Ne-Zniyoo members past and present.
First up was clueLess. Joseph Pla (guitar/vocals), Nelson
Pla (percussion/vocals) who also happens to be the very
first of many drummers for Ya-Ne-Zniyoo and Bryan Schmidt
(bass). These guys are in like 12 bands and clueLess is their
outlet for original songs. Hopefully they will have some sort
of CD to share with the world someday. Come on guys ... get
with the program ... kids today love them there CD thingies!
Next up was an historic event. The original lineup of Ya-Ne-Zniyoo
(Ed "Edzo" Zimmer on vocals, Stephen Bailey ...
er ... me that is ... on guitar and Nelson Pla on percussion)
got up and performed together for the first time since 1993!
This truly was a thrill for me. Ed is a brilliant songwriter
and Nelson and I have been friends for centuries it seems.
He even owns the house where I currently reside. During that
early version of Ya-Ne-Zniyoo, we created our share of magic.
On this day we decided to perform 5 newer pieces that Ed had
written. To add to the excitement, I had only learned the
songs 2 days before the show and Nelson ... 2 hours!! But
we pulled it off and man it was fun.
Then it was the latest incarnation of Ya-Ne-Zniyoo's turn
to shine. The lineup is still Eric Schmitz and myself but
added to the mix is some flippin' funky noise, loops and other
wackiness. We're continuing to test the boundaries of the
term "band". By the end of the summer, we may have
a few new surprises to unleash on your brains.
Very special thanks to:
- Ivy and everyone at the Ristra for keeping such a vibrant
and important part of the local music/art scene alive.
- Lisa Bernstein for helping out with the sound on her day
off.
(Love ya like a fat kid loves cake!!)
- Mary Zelazny for the delicious dip.
(I'm gonna steal the recipe and sell it to Paul Newman!)
- And ... of course Hilary Gilles (a.k.a. Mrs. Schmitz)
for her
never-ending love and support.
This was a great send off for us as we head to Austria for
2 weeks (7/1 - 7/15) of shows, beer and relaxation. Thanks
to everyone for coming out and we'll see ya when we get back!
In the mean time, take a look at the party
pics and buy
our CD!
Cheers,
Stephen
